Complying with Fire Safety LawsSmall businesses could face penalties up to £10,000 or even prison if they fail to comply with the fire safety laws, warns Insurer, More Than Business.According to More Than, fire in small business costs the UK economy an estimated £330 million per year. It’s own figures reveal that in 2006, the average cost of a fire alarm claim was £26,000, yet the true cost of businesses can be even larger. 80% of small businesses affected by fire will not be trading a year later. The regulatory reform safety order is the biggest shakeup in fire legislation for 30 years, yet many small businesses are not even aware that the new Law exists. The legislation does appear to be having an impact on fires in small businesses however, as since it was introduced Insurers have seen a 36% decrease in the number of fire alarm complaints compared with the same period for the year before.
